Let’s talk a little bit about that practically-alive internet sensation, Google. Both a noun and a verb, this dynamic online force can do a lot to help boost your business in, well, Google. And that’s what you want!
One of the easiest keys to Google success is to claim and curate your Google business page. Do you have a business website? You have a Google business page, officially called Google My Business, to claim. While the price tag is free, prepare to spend a little time sprucing up the place.
So you’ve checked and you have a Google business page, so you’re good, right? Wrong! You need to claim it. Most importantly because someone else may have claimed it and can do with it as they please. You don’t want someone to act maliciously on one of if not the most visible online search resources you have. The second most important reason is because once you’ve claimed your Google business page Google takes that as a signal that you really do care about your customers and so they’ll give your listing priority whenever possible.
Test the awesomeness of your Google business page right now. Google your business name. Don’t go to your website, just google your business name (side note: if you use Google as a verb, does it still get capitalized? #WordNerdProblems). Your business page will either show up on the right hand side if you’re using a computer, or it will be the first thing in your face on a smartphone.
Got nuthin’ but a link to your website? No sweat, you can still set up a page quickly and efficiently. For the purposes of this exercise then, google Jelly Triangle and take a look at our business page.
Immediately the business page tells all. Location, hours of operation – including whether it’s opened or closed right this moment; it’ll even tell you if the business you’ve searched is closing soon. Get quick access to recent articles (your blog says “Hi”! If it’s a retail shop, you can see when busy times are, and last but certainly not least, Google Maps will tell you short and sweet how to get there from where you are right now. If you have your GPS turns on your phone. You can turn that off, you know. That’s a whole different post.
