HTML and CSS Standards Compliance

When you hire a writer on a project, you expect that writer to use proper grammar, punctuation and syntax, regardless of how beautiful or artisitic their prose is. When you hire a site designer, you should expect the same level of competence in your web site code, regardless of the competence of their actual design. Your project will be coded using the correct grammar, punctuation and syntax as specified by the W3C.

Here is an explanation from the W3C Validator website:

"Most pages on the World Wide Web are written in computer languages (such as HTML) that allow Web authors to structure text, add multimedia content, and specify what appearance, or style, the result should have."

"As for every language, these have their own grammar, vocabulary and syntax, and every document written with these computer languages are supposed to follow these rules. The (X)HTML languages, for all versions up to XHTML 1.1, are using machine-readable grammars called DTDs, a mechanism inherited from SGML."

"However, Just as texts in a natural language can include spelling or grammar errors, documents using Markup languages may (for various reasons) not be following these rules. The process of verifying whether a document actually follows the rules for the language(s) it uses is called validation, and the tool used for that is a validator. A document that passes this process with success is called valid."

Cross-browser Compatibility: Internet Explorer®, Firefox®, and Chrome®

I test each site I design by viewing the pages in each of the three major browsers. The trio of Microsoft Internet Explorer®, Mozilla Firefox®, and Google Chrome®, represent a significant portion of the browsers used by visitors on the web. You can rest assured that if your site works properly in these three browsers, it will work when potential customers visit your site

Custom Graphics

When you hire me to create your web site, you get two designers for the price of one. As a site designer, I will work with you to create the web page layout, code JavaScript menus, and create PHP forms. But as a graphic designer, I will create custom images, buttons, and other design elements specifically for your site. You can send me an image and I will use Illustrator® and Photoshop® to create a unique graphic for your site.

Search Engine Optimisation

Having a perfectly coded web site with beautiful graphics means absolutely nothing if no one can find it on the world wide web. Search engine rankings are an important part of generating traffic to your site. Your rankings will be affected by your site content, backlinks (other legitimate sites which link to you), and other factors. You can spend hundreds of hours tweaking key words and content to get the best results, but it won't matter if your site isn't coded to take advantage of that hard work.

Usability Testing

Each site we design is sent out to fifty average people, ranging in age from 13 - 65 years old, who test the site design for usability. Does the site flow properly? Is it easy to navigate? Can I get key sales and contact information easily? Is it senior friendly? Any issues are immediately addressed so you don't lose potential customers.

Web Design and Product Packaging for FINNSAGE Inc.

FINNSAGE is a hamilton based, Canadian-owned and operated, small business which sells the Magic Ring® in hardware & gardening supply stores nationwide.

FINNSAGE was already an established small business and hired us to create a professional banner for their tradeshow displays. They had existing business cards and wanted the banner design to reflected a similar design.

Since our initial design, we have worked closely with them to create a new web site and design new product packaging.
